According to statistics, the main export items from Vietnam to the German market include electrical/mechanical machinery and equipment, footwear, clothing, leather goods, coffee, fruits, and furniture (details provided in the table below).

Đối với hàng hóa thuộc diện nhập khẩu thông thường, các chứng từ mà nhà nhập khẩu phải xuất trình cho cơ quan hải quan Đức bao gồm:

  • Vận đơn (vận đơn đường biển – B/L, vận đơn đường hàng không – AWB…)
  • Giấy chứng nhận xuất xứ hàng hóa (C/O): Nếu hàng hóa muốn được hưởng ưu đãi thuế quan GSP hay EVFTA thì phải nộp CO tương ứng (với GSP là tự chứng nhận xuất xứ theo Cơ chế REX của EU, với EVFTA là C/O mẫu EVFTA (mẫu EUR.1) do cơ quan có thẩm quyền của Việt Nam cấp.

 

The required import documents:

For regular imports, the documents that importers must present to the German customs authorities include:

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Bill of Lading (for sea freight) or Air Waybill (for air freight)
  • Certificate of Origin (C/O): If the goods are eligible for preferential customs duties under GSP or EVFTA, the corresponding C/O must be submitted (for GSP, it is the self-certification of origin under the EU’s REX scheme, for EVFTA it is the EVFTA Certificate of Origin (EUR.1) issued by the competent authority in Vietnam.

For goods subject to specific control, in addition to the aforementioned documents, businesses will need to submit additional mandatory documents to German customs, depending on the type of goods, such as:

Certification Type Description Applicable Products
CE-marking Certification Ensures that products meet safety, health, and environmental standards set by the European Union. Toys for children under 14 years old, refrigerators, freezers, gas-burning appliances, machinery, medical devices, measuring instruments, electrical equipment, etc.
CITES Certification Issued to regulate and protect endangered species of animals and plants. Animal specimens (alive or not), plant specimens and their parts, or products derived from animals or plants.
Fumigation Certificate Certifies that goods are free from harmful microorganisms, issued by the plant quarantine authority of the exporting country. Goods made from wood (bamboo, rattan, handicrafts), organic products (coffee, pepper, cashew nuts), or wooden packaging materials (pallets).
Animal and Plant Quarantine Certificate Ensures that products comply with hygiene and food safety standards, protecting public health. Fruits, vegetables, seafood, and certain other products of animal or plant origin.

After the imported goods are submitted with all the required documents, taxes and fees are paid as requested, and the goods are checked without any issues (if physical inspection is required), German customs will proceed with customs clearance for the shipment and release the goods. During the customs clearance process, imported goods will be placed in Temporary Storage under the supervision of customs (not exceeding 90 days) until the goods are cleared.

Once cleared and released, the imported goods will be freely circulated in Germany and throughout the entire territory of the EU.
